對於兩聲道的貢獻
M&K 在1973年以錄音起家,創立了當年第一座LP直刻錄音室(RealTime錄音室), 並克服了許多技術困難,
以獨特的直刻錄音技術, 發行了許多發燒LP. 什麼是直刻錄音? 就是在錄製專輯時, 請演奏者當場在錄音室演唱,
如果有10首歌曲, 則演唱者要一連將10首歌曲唱完, 混音師則在現場一邊錄製一邊操作器材進行混音,
這在當時的技術上來說有許多困難, 稍有不慎, 整盤直刻錄音就功敗垂成, 這有一點像是現在的現場演唱會一樣,
不同的是即使利用現代的錄音技術來製作這一類發燒軟體, 還是具備很高的困難性. 在當時,
M&K製作了一系列用於直刻錄音的特製麥克風與混音器, 整套設備價值150,000美元, M&K的直刻錄音技術,
造就了聞名的For Duke爵士專輯, 至今此專輯還是被國外評鑒為極品LP錄音. 在70年代末期,
M&K又投入了數碼採樣錄音的研究, 並且改造了索尼16bit數碼答錄機, 成功的帶領美國兩聲道錄音進入數碼CD時代,
在美國率先發行了第一張CD. 直到今天, M&K在Skip Sayor錄音室繼續著他的直刻錄音技術研究,
並且已經發行了20多張音質超群的發燒CD. |

超低音之父在70年代, 世界上還沒有任何音箱可以完整重播For Duke專輯裏頭的超低音, 於是Ken Kreisel開始進入製造高性能音箱與超低音的研究,
最後製造了世界上第一顆超低音單元並且制定了M&K的音箱+超低音的技術平臺. 最後這套技術平臺以產品的形式出現,
幫助了當時許多錄音室實現具備臨場感的直刻錄音. 更在1977年推出了世界上第一顆主動式電子分頻超低音.
導管式高音之父
在成為超低音的領導廠商之後, 90年代M&K聚集了雄厚的錄音技術, 為解決音箱高音單體失真對於錄音品質的破壞,
決心研發超低失真的高音單元, 並且將這種技術進行量產運用於一般價位的音箱,
M&K所研發的超低失真高音單元稱為Transmission Line Tweeter 線性傳輸高音單元,
又稱之為導管式高音單元. 這種高音單元能以極低的失真重播各種樂器所能產生的高頻響應, 原理是在高音振盆之後加上一條細長的導管,
導管經過精密計算壓模成型, 並且于1992年成功的量產. 這項革命性的技術與設計理念後來成為許多音箱廠模仿的對象,
並給予各式各樣不同的名稱.
對於多聲道影院的貢獻
早在70年代, M&K就針對兩聲道提出了超低音必須單獨管理的概念, 並且成功的研製成系統產品推出市場, 在當時,
M&K也是世界上第一家公司參與了THX的機制認證, 成為當時第一家通過THX認證的音箱製造廠,
到如今喬治盧卡斯THX公司一直把M&K音箱當作參考音箱, 成為產業界THX音箱的參考標準.
這對於後來的多聲道格式的制定影響很大,
特別是90年代初期杜比實驗室研發真正的5.1多聲道格式AC-3時加入了多聲道低音管理機制, 在AC-3(就是現在的Dolby
Digital)研發過程, 幾位杜比的核心工程師在喬治盧卡斯影業THX的SkyWalker錄音室聽到了M&K的5000THX音箱系統,
對其優異的電影與音樂的重撥性極其推薦, 最後購買了整套5000THX音箱系統當成他們研發AC-3時的參考音箱,
到現在M&K的S-150系統成為杜比實驗室的標準配備, 位於全世界的各地的杜比實驗室都指定配備M&K S-150音箱,
在中國的上海杜比實驗室也配置了這套系統. 後來DTS也採用了M&K音箱系統當成他們的參考音箱.
Dolby, DTS, THX 這三家重量級多聲道格式研發公司的聯手推薦, M&K成為產業界多聲道系統的標準,
因為如今配置於世界上幾億部家用功放, DVD機裏面的多聲道解碼就是使用M&K音箱監聽研發而出.
所有的多聲道電影更是以Dolby, DTS與THX數碼音效處理而錄製.
現在美國聯邦HDTV高解像電視委員會 FCC Advanced Television Standards
Committee 在他們的實驗室裏也使用了M&K音箱系統為參考, 向世界各地推廣美國的HDTV標準. |
